Canop / coaching institute software
CBT mode: online exam software for coaching classes
Canop's CBT mode (Computer Based Test) gives students a proper exam screen: a question palette, mark-for-review and a countdown, on the web or on their phone. Objective papers grade themselves, and you watch the room live.

Write questions in Canop, or import them from a PDF of an existing paper, diagrams included. A paper can be split into sections, and multi-subject papers let each student sit only the subjects they study.
Shuffle questions across the whole paper or only inside the sections you choose, so neighbours are not looking at the same question.
Sit the test
- A question palette that shows what is answered, skipped and marked for review
- Answers saved as the student goes, so a dropped connection does not lose work
- A countdown kept by the server, not by the student's device
- The same exam on the web or the mobile app
Live proctoring
During the test you can watch each student's progress. Canop records when a student leaves the exam screen and for how long, and flags the attempt for the teacher to review.
Results
Objective questions are scored on submission, with negative marking if the paper uses it. Written answers go to the teacher to grade. Marks, ranks and solutions are then released batch by batch, and parents are told automatically.
A student who missed the test can be offered a retest slot and answer it in the app.
Common questions
What is CBT mode?
CBT stands for Computer Based Test. In Canop it means the student sits the paper on a screen instead of on an OMR sheet, and objective questions are marked automatically.
Can we import questions from a PDF?
Yes. Upload the paper and Canop reads the questions into your exam, with their diagrams, for you to check before it goes live.
Can students take the test on a phone?
Yes, on the mobile app or in a browser.
Can one paper go to several batches?
Yes. One paper can be sat by many batches, and results are released separately for each.
Can we mix online and paper tests?
Yes. Paper tests use OMR scanning and online tests use CBT mode, and both land in the same student record.
